Hear Coach, a new mobile app for auditory training, is now available in the iTunes store. Patients with hearing loss often have communication breakdowns in noisy situations, and auditory training activities are designed to help them sharpen their hearing and listening skills. However, if a program doesn’t engage patients and encourage them to spend enough time training to improve performance, it won’t work.
Hear Coach takes a different approach by providing interactive listening games designed to challenge a patient’s cognitive and auditory skills, helping patients improve their ability to listen in noise so they can participate without as much effort. The app allows patients to track their progress over time while continuously challenging themselves. We encourage the use of this app as part of your fitting process to increase patient acceptance and satisfaction.

Interesting. How does this differ from the Lace computer program?
Good question. LACE stands for Listening and Communication Enhancement. It was developed by a company called Neurotone to help people with hearing and/or listening difficulties (with or even without hearing aids, I believe).
Both LACE and Hear Coach have the same goals, I would say. To help people retain/regain some natural ability to hear/understand/listen. Hear Coach is a new approach at helping people, developed by Starkey Labs. It was created with the same goals in mind as LACE, but is built on a rewards/points based system. Kind of like a game. It’s a fresher approach that should keep anyone engaged as they train their brains to hear/listen better.
Thanks for your opinions on LACE. At Neurotone, we encourage clinics to use all available tools for their rehabilitation.
We recently released LACE Online and Sycle has integrated LACE Online into it’s offering so that clinicians can issue access codes to LACE Online, track patient progress, receive feedback on patient QuickSIN scores etc. The integration is seamless and provides unlimited Access Codes for a low monthly fee.
